Tired all the time? What your fatigue is trying to tell you.

Amanda Queen PA-C

Feeling tired has become so common that many people assume it’s just part of life. Busy schedules, stress, getting older - it’s easy to normalize low energy. However, persistent fatigue is not normal. It’s a sign that needs some investigation.

At Revival Integrative Health, we see fatigue as an important message. The challenge is that it can be difficult to determine the exact underlying cause, and rarely is there just one reason. If you’ve been told your labs are “normal” but you still feel exhausted, there’s usually more to uncover.

Here are some of the most common root contributors we see behind ongoing fatigue:

Blood Sugar Imbalance

Even subtle swings in blood sugar can leave you feeling drained, shaky, or foggy. Many people are riding a rollercoaster of spikes and crashes without realizing it. This is especially common in those who skip meals, rely on quick carbs, or don’t prioritize protein. If you’re already prioritizing protein, how about fiber? Additionally, if you’re interested in optimizing metabolic health, we offer CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) consultations to get you set up with a prescription for a CGM device and education to get started.

Nutrient Deficiencies

Low levels of iron, B12, magnesium, and other key nutrients can significantly impact energy production at the cellular level. You don’t have to be severely deficient to feel the effects. “Low-normal” is often not optimal. And while supplements can absolutely be a part of a holistic solution, they shouldn’t be the only solution.

Gut Dysfunction

Your gut plays a central role in nutrient absorption, inflammation, and even neurotransmitter production. Imbalances like dysbiosis or conditions like SIBO drive fatigue, even without major digestive symptoms. And we’ll be honest - we see a lot of SIBO in our practice.

Hormone Imbalances

Thyroid dysfunction, cortisol dysregulation, and sex hormone imbalances can all contribute to low energy. Many standard tests miss early or subtle shifts, leaving people undiagnosed but still symptomatic.

Chronic Inflammation or Immune Activation

Whether from infections, food sensitivities, or environmental exposures, ongoing inflammation can be incredibly draining. Your body diverts energy toward defense instead of vitality.

Toxin Burden

We are all exposed daily to chemicals, heavy metals, and environmental toxins. When the body’s detoxification pathways are overwhelmed or sluggish, fatigue is often one of the first signs. Need help getting started reducing your toxin load? Start here.

Poor Sleep Quality, Even If You’re “Sleeping”You can be in bed for 8 hours and still wake up exhausted. Blood sugar swings, cortisol patterns, nutrient deficiencies, and even gut issues can all disrupt restorative sleep cycles.

What’s the Next Step?

You don’t have to push through fatigue or mask it with caffeine. Fatigue is a signal that it is time to dig deeper.

A root-cause approach means we look at the full picture. We dig into patterns, run the correct labs when needed, and create a personalized plan that supports your body’s ability to produce and sustain energy.

This often includes:

  • Stabilizing blood sugar with balanced meals

  • Repleting key nutrient deficiencies

  • Supporting gut health and reducing inflammation

  • Addressing hormone imbalances

  • Enhancing natural detoxification pathways

  • Improving sleep quality at a deeper level

There’s no one-size-fits-all protocol because your fatigue has a specific story. When we take the time to understand that story, energy goes from temporarily improving to becoming more sustainable. If you’re constantly tired and not getting answers, it may be time to look beyond the surface. Your body knows what it needs, and we’re happy to partner with you on interpreting those needs.
