In our practice, red light therapy is an excellent tool to support healing, recovery, and nervous system balance. What Is Red Light Therapy?


Red light therapy, or RLT, uses specific wavelengths of visible red and near infrared light to stimulate cellular function. These wavelengths penetrate the skin and underlying tissues and interact with the mitochondria, the energy centers of our cells.

Mitochondria are responsible for producing ATP, the molecule that powers nearly every cellular process in the body. When mitochondria function more efficiently, tissues repair more effectively, inflammation is better regulated, and the body is more resilient to stress. 

Importantly, red and near infrared light do not damage the skin and do not carry the risks associated with ultraviolet light. When used appropriately, red light therapy is safe for regular use.


How Red Light Therapy Works at the Cellular Level


Red and near infrared light are absorbed by chromophores within the mitochondria, particularly cytochrome c oxidase. This interaction can lead to:

Our Recommended Lumebox Protocol


Lumebox cycles are designed to deliver an effective dose in a short period of time.


General wellness and recovery protocol


  • Session length: 12 minutes

  • Frequency: Once daily

  • Distance: Follow Lumebox manufacturer guidelines for positioning, but generally 0.5 inches to 6 inches depending on treatment area

  • Clothing: Minimal clothing over the treatment area for optimal light exposure


Targeted use


  • Position the panel to focus on the area of concern such as face, joints, muscles, or the lower back

  • Maintain consistent daily use for best results

  • Most patients notice benefits after just a few sessions, increasing with regular use


Consistency is more important than intensity. Daily exposure at the appropriate dose tends to produce better outcomes than sporadic or overly long sessions.
